    I have the same newer unit on the classic turret press and can't make it work smoothly. It hits the bottom of the turret assembly before getting to the primer arm.

    • @TreeTopFlier
      @TreeTopFlier 13 дней назад

      Cant picture the problem but Ill take a guess. The primer lever engagement is in part influenced by the sizing die adjustment since the sizing die contacts the shell holder and stops the ram from going up any further. Backing the die out (as long as you can maintain full sizing) might let the ram come up a little higher and give better alignment.

    • @johnthomas9204
      @johnthomas9204 11 дней назад

      @TreeTopFlier took me a little time to get back to the bench. I figured out that I had an issue with the led lighting strip that I installed. It was making it hang up just a hair. I removed the spacer between the mount and the turret for the priming arm, and it now works as expected. Which is good since the whole idea of the turret press is ease of operation and without the priming feature, it seemed foolish. Thanks for the insight and for your terrific videos.

    I agree it doesn’t take a lot of space and you certainly don’t have to buy the ultra expensive equipment that’s out there today. But the only thing that is troubling is the price of components. I dont know if it’s the manufacturers or the distributors but someone has lost their minds. A thousand primers is almost if not $100 and a pound of powder is almost as high at $75-$95 depending upon what you want. I would seriously consider that when getting into the hobby. At these prices it’s simply not worth it. The factory ammo manufacturers are loading just about every quality bullet you want these days. It really seems like the forces that be are wanting to make it more expensive to shoot so people can’t afford it anymore and our guns will be useless. I see no reason to reload and pay more money per round than I can buy it for already made. I’ve got thousands of dollars worth of equipment that is sitting there doing nothing. And unless these manufacturers and distributors stop charging these prices it will continue to do nothing.

    • @TreeTopFlier
      @TreeTopFlier 12 дней назад

      Thanks for watching! I agree that the cost of reloading components particularly powder and primers has really gone up, but the cost of ammo hasnt done much better. Easy spend a $40+ for a box of rifle cartridges. I find myself using lower cost powder like CFE223 or BL-C(2) instead of Varget or H4895. a pound of CFE223 is about $38 and it will do about 150 308 loads. It looks like manufactures are catching up from the extraordinary demand of the civilian market after co vid and Biden panic. Hoping for a continued reduction in pricing in the future as products come back on line.

      This video is a how to convert 223 brass to 300 blackout using the power quick trim system to set final trim. If you just want to use it to trim 300 black cases, thats easy. Put in the right shell holder. Screw the quick trim die into the press till it touches the shell holder or more for handle position ease. Put the cutter in the top without the steel extension ring, run a case in and run the cutter with a drill or powered screw driver. Use the black plastic ring to change the amount of trim up to .010"

    I've been thinking about getting into reloading on and off for years, but single stages always seemed like too much fiddling-- requiring large batches to minimize the overhead of die changes-- and too much transferring the cartridge into and out of loading blocks, while progressive presses just had a scary amount of stuff going on with each pull of the lever for someone like me who wants to watch each stage of each cartridge like a hawk. I recently learned about manual turrets like the Redding T-7, which seem like a big improvement over standard single stages and give you the option to complete a cartridge without the constant transfers of the cartridge to and from loading blocks and I thought that was as good as it was going to get until I saw this video, which did the best job I have ever seen in explaining different kinds of setups possible. This turret has a leg up over the manual turrets in that it saves you from having to rotate the turret after each pull, and it automatically kicks the cartridge out. I'm on the verge of ordering this one, but thought I'd check to see if you know of any other presses from different manufacturers which offer this same kind of workflow just for the sake of completeness. Thank you for making this video, I am extremely glad I watched it before ordering a manual turret.

      Actually, the plastic part is scuffed a little but not damaged in anyway. I think I may have hit a military crimp and put too much stress on the primer lever. They will need to make these out of steel in the near future like the old ones in my opinion.

    That little plastic piece to hold the shell holder i can see it getting broke if you have a stuck case or sticking cases alot.

      Sorry if I gave that impression. I don't like it because it doesn't fit particularly securely. The type of plastic used is very durable and flexible. You could probably tie it in a knot without breaking it. Thanks for watching.

    It doesn't look like the bin bracket is available as a spare part. Given that this is a wear item as you have demonstrated, I hope it becomes available.

      Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like that part would wear out. I don't think that's likely. I was just trying to show where the primer lever rides by showing the scuff left behind. Good catch that it's not in the parts kit....yet.

      @@TreeTopFlier I appreciate your videos on this press, and those from Viejo. Because of those, I picked up my own. I'm still waiting on the bullet feed (I opted for the base kit) and a quick change plate from Inline Fab. Thanks for your videos here and the other site.

      I think I might have found the bracket. Looks like it might be the same as from the 6-pack pro: leeprecision.com/six-pack-bin-bracket

    The wear point on the index system seems to be the slot where the index rod goes into it. It'll widen a little bit, that'll cause the turret not to totally rotate but the alignment pin will fully align the turret. This same index system is used on the 6 pack pro and the teeth don't wear or not that I have been able to determine. I agree the shell plate rotates too freely, but isn't a show stopper. As far as breaking the primer arm, that is one I haven't experienced yet, not sure how that would've happened.

      I agree, the slot in the clutch is the most likely wear point in the system.

    So it looks like you have the 1st gen 5 hole turret, I did as well. These presses are now shipping with the ball and spring, new bearing plate with the holes drilled in, a turret with detents milled into the bottom face of the turret and new instructions that have you place the ball and spring into the 4-6 cup for the 5 hole turret and the 5 cup for the 4 or 6 hole turret. So right now your ball and spring are indexing off of the alignment pin hole so yes you'll get some wiggle but with the new turrets they are indexing off of the machined index detent on the bottom face and it aligns so that the alignment pin doesn't really move the turret at all. I have machined my own index detents into my 5 & 6 hole turrets. If you purchase the 4 hole turret those index detents are already there.

    I just bought a Lee Pro 4000 kit in 223...... So far it is a great press.... easy to set up and no issues yet. I was going to get the Ultimate but Walter told me don't do it and get a Pro 4000. I hope Lee will get it to together some day and make better quantity stuff...

      I would agree with Walter, but now that they fixed the index system, I think it's worth considering. As a long time Lee user, I am not happy at the way they rolled this press out and then tried to sneak in a fix like it never happened. Pretty lame. Thanks for watching!

    The Beastie Boys.... "You gota Fight !!!!...For your Right!!!!.... To Use Leeeee...." hehehe.. Just Joking,, I have a lot of great Lee products, however, seems like few of their progressive presses work right out of the box, you have to expect to fiddle with them,, and that's okay. - Good review between you and Walter. Peace - Dave

      DAVE! Haha 😄 when dealing with Lee, a sense of humor helps. This press is pretty awesome. I just wish they would T&E some and work the bugs out before hitting the public. They're going way to fast with new products.
